Bangladesh batter Mominul Haque has decided to step down as Test captain of the national team on Tuesday.
Mominul made it clear after a meeting with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon at his residence that he no longer wanted to be the Test team's captain.
At the end of the meeting with the BCB boss, Mominul said to the media that he was offered to continue as captain by the board but he did not accept the offer.

"When you play well, even if the team doesn't win, you are still in a position to motivate them. I felt that captaining a side is tough when I am not scoring and team is not winning. I think it is best to quit the captaincy,” said Mominul to the media.

"I feel I should focus on my batting. It wasn't a hard decision. A captain has to contribute otherwise it brings a lot of pressure. The board president told me to stay on but I don't want to be the captain" he added.
It’s understandable that Mominul, who has captained the side in the longest format since October 2019, was weighed down by the pressures of captaincy and struggled with the bat.
He has averaged just 16.20 in 2022, with 162 runs from six matches. Under Mominul's leadership, Bangladesh only won three Tests, losing 12 and drawn two.
Despite a historic victory over New Zealand in Mount Maunganui to start 2022, Bangladesh lost four of their next five Tests, losing series to both South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is one of the candidates being considered to succeed Mominul, although the team has yet to appoint a full-time captain.
