Former Australia captain Tim Paine was not included in the state contract (2022-2023) by Cricket Tasmania.
Paine stepped down as the Test skipper after a "sexting" scandal and took an indefinite "mental health break" from the game.
A Cricket Tasmania spokesperson said Paine was not given a contract by his home state because he was still on mental health leave from the national governing body Cricket Australia (CA).

Tasmanian Tigers head coach Jeff Vaughan said the state’s breadth of talent had meant there was no need to lure multiple players from elsewhere.
“There is a good mix of senior and emerging players within the list, and on the back of a promising season 2021-22, we are excited for what’s ahead,” he said.
“With hopefully a full fixture of both red and white-ball cricket this year, I’m really excited and confident about what this group can produce,” he added.
