Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who is reluctant to play Test, has to feature in the red-ball format if the team needed in the upcoming Sri Lanka series, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon said on Saturday.

The 26-year-old paceman, who is now playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Delhi Capitals. The tournament will run until May 29. If he is really called up for the Bangladesh Test team, he will have to return from the middle of the tournament.

Discussions to bring him back to the Tests started mainly due to injury problems of some other fast bowlers. In the middle of the last South Africa series, two fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam got injured.

In such a situation, Bangladesh may face a crisis with the pacer. If the solution to that crisis is with Mustafiz, then he will be brought back from IPL. Papon made it clear at a BCB Iftar function at a hotel in the capital today.

"We sent a form to the players asking who wanted to play in which format. The players set to those formats accordingly. Mustafiz, however, did not write his name for the Test. He did not say he wanted to play Tests," Papon said.

"It doesn’t matter what he said or not. He will definitely play when we need him. So now if I need Mustafiz in Sri Lanka series too, he will definitely play” he added.

Mustafizur was reportedly not interested in playing the five-day format, preferring to stay healthy for his two favorite formats of the game, ODI and T20I, for as long as possible. The bowler, however, stated to media that he will make a final decision after consulting with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

He last played in a Test against the West Indies in February last year. The previous one was on the 2019 tour of New Zealand. In the last three and a half years he has only played these two Tests.
