Left-arm Pacer Mohammad Amir is expected to return to international cricket, according to Pakistani media on Sunday.
Following the victory of a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, speculations surfaced that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja has decided to resign.
If Raja resigns, it is expected that the pacer, who has played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is for Pakistan, will come out of retirement.
The 29-year-old hung up his boots back in December 2020 stating that he was being mentally tortured.
“I am leaving cricket for now because I’m being mentally tortured,” he had said while announcing the decision. “I don’t think I can bear such torture. I’ve borne lots of torture from 2010 to 2015, for which I served my time. I’ve been tortured by being told the PCB invested a lot in me.”
Previously Amir had also thanked Najam Sethi, who is likely to replace Raja, for helping him during a tough stage of his career
“I’ll just say two people invested in me a lot: [former PCB chairman] Najam Sethi and [former Pakistan captain] Shahid Afridi.”
After the departure of the then-coaches, Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq, Amir announced that he might reconsider his retirement.
Despite the change in PCB setup, Amir stayed away from international cricket largely due to Raja’s tough stance and no-tolerance policy regarding fixers.
