The Lucknow Super Giants of the Indian Premier League (IPL) were interested in Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed to replace England's Mark Wood in the upcoming season.

However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) won’t give the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Taskin as he is currently touring South Africa for three-match ODI series with two-match Test series.

The development was confirmed by Jalal Yunus, chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) cricket operations committee to media on Monday.

"You know the Lucknow team wanted him (Taskin). BCCI has contacted us. But we have two Tests ahead and one ODI in South Africa, so we don't want him to skip this series and go to IPL now,” Jalal said.

“The responsibility of the national team is of course number one. Nothing compares to this. So we made a decision. I told him to continue this series. And he will continue this series,”

“Taskin told them he would not play, could not go. He will play for Bangladesh in the South Africa series” Jajal added.

It was learned that Gautam Gambhir, Lucknow's advisor, approached Taskin regarding this issue.

Previously, seamer Wood has been ruled out of the 2022 edition of the IPL. He sustained an elbow injury during the first Test against West Indies in Antigua last week.
