Ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has asked for a break from the upcoming South Africa tour and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted him the break from cricket till April 30, BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus informed the media Wednesday.
''He called me and said that I am not physically and mentally fit to play and want to skip the South Africa series and we have decided to give him rest till April 30,'' Jalal told reporters on Wednesday.
Shakib hinted at an international sabbatical on Sunday, citing his "physical and emotional health" as a reason for needing a "long-term plan" to manage his game time.

Shakib said he felt like a "passenger" throughout the Afghanistan series, in which he scored 74 runs and took seven wickets in three One-Day Internationals and two Twenty-20 Internationals.

Moreover, Dhaka Premier League is set to begin on March 15, and Mohammedan will be without Shakib for the duration of the tournament, which is set to end before April 30th.
Shakib had previously stated that if he was recruited by an IPL side, he would forgo the Tests in South Africa. In the huge auction, however, he remained unsold.
Last week, Shakib was named in both teams for the South Africa tour after BCB president Nazmul Hasan confirmed the all-rounder has consented to play in the Tests as well.
On March 11, the Bangladeshi squad will fly to South Africa. During the tour, they will play three One-Day Internationals and two Tests, while the ODI series will begin on March 18.
