Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh's ODI captain, applauded his two young guns, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Afif Hossain Dhrubo, for showing a great character with the bat in leading Bangladesh to a four-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the first of the three-match ODI series today at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Bangladesh staged one of the greatest comebacks in history thanks to an undefeated 174-run seventh-wicket stand between Afif and Mehedi.
“Honestly, I did not believe we could win after 45/6. But I'm very proud and happy for the two for their incredible innings. Afghanistan have a brilliant attack but Mehidy and Afif did well. Hopefully, this is a start for them and they have many more amazing performances,” Tamim said during the post-match presentation.
Player of the match Miraz said, "Nothing is impossible for a human. We knew it was difficult but we had the belief. That was the key. I had a chat with Afif and told him that this was a huge opportunity for us and we could win."
Meanwhile, Afghanistan skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi hailed Bangladesh's firm effort despite losing six wickets, stating that the team is looking forward to making a comeback in the series.

"We had a good start but they played very well without giving a chance, which was incredible. We were 30-runs short but the way Fazal started was great but credit to them for fighting back. This was just the start but there are two more games to go and we will look to come back," Shahidi said.
