Tamim Iqbal has decided to hold his decision about his T20I career and opted to take a six-month break as the cricketer will continue to play the other two formats.

The opening batter has announced on Thursday in a press conference at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chattogram.

"Recently I have been in discussions with the BCB president [Nazmul Hassan] and Kazi Inam bhai but I have decided not to consider the T20I format for the next six months and I want to focus on ODI and Test cricket," Tamim told the media.

However, Tamim said he would return to the T20I side if needed, he hoped that such a situation will not arise.

"I hope in the six months, those who play do so well that the team would not require me for this format. But if the team does not do well during that period then I will think about it. My decision is purely based on cricketing aspects. There are no scopes for controversy here," he added.

Tamim was regular in the Bangladesh T20I side until he pulled out of the New Zealand series in March 2021. It raised speculation that he was about to retire from the format but Tamim later hinted that playing all three formats was not ideal for him.

He also missed the T20Is against Zimbabwe, Australia and New Zealand due to a knee injury. He also opted out of the T20I World Cup to make way for the young cricketers.

The left-handed batsman recently returned from an injury and scored two half-centuries for Minister Group Dhaka in BPL.

The 32-year-old has played 74 T20Is for Bangladesh, scoring 1758 runs with one century and seven half-centuries. He last played a T20I against Zimbabwe in March 2020 in Dhaka.
