SL edge Bangladesh Women to qualify for Commonwealth Games

Bangladesh Women were defeated by Sri Lanka Women and qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which is going to be held in Birmingham.


Chasing 137, Bangladesh could muster 114 losing five wickets in 20 overs at Kinrara Oval, Kuala Lumpur on Monday.


Murshida Khatun top-scored for Bangladesh by smashing 36 off 36 with three boundaries. Then Fargana Hoque scored 33 in 39 deliveries aided by two fours. Captain Nigar Sultana played a knock of 20 runs.

Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu was the pick of the bowling attack, took three wickets for the side to ensure the victory.


Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 136 runs in 20 overs after winning the toss. Sri Lanka captain Athapaththu smashed 48 off 28 hitting 6 fours and three sixes, then the batter was returned Rumana Ahmed with a catch to Fargana.


Nilakshi de Silva and Anushka Sanjeewani played brief innings of 23 and 20 respectively to set the target of 137 runs for Bangladesh.


Nahida Akter took a couple of wickets, Salma Khatun, Suraiya Azmin and Rumana took one wicket each.
