Khulna Tigers chased down a tough target of 184 runs with five wickets in hand against star-studded Minister Group Dhaka in their Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2022 match in Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday,
Andre Fletcher got Khulna off to a quick start and built a solid platform for the middle order, scoring 45 runs off just 23 deliveries.
Rony Talukdar, an experienced local campaigner, then played a significant innings in the middle of the innings to bring the target within reach, scoring 61 off 42 balls with seven fours and one six.
With a scorching 36 off just 18 deliveries, experienced Thisara Perera sealed the victory for Khulna. Dhaka had earlier put up a difficult total of 183, relying on blitzes at the start and end of the innings.
Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Shahzad formed a solid opening partnership, putting on 69 runs in the first eight overs before Afghanistan's Shahzad was dismissed.
Before being run out in a careless fashion, the wicketkeeper-batsman scored 42 off 27 balls with eight boundaries.
Tamim, on the other hand, anchored the innings and scored a crucial run in his comeback match following a series of ailments. In a patient innings, the Bangladesh ODI captain hit seven boundaries and got to fifty in 41 balls before being caught at deep midwicket while attempting to clear the boundary against Khulna pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi.
Andre Russell, batting on seven from just two balls, glided the third ball of the 15th over to short-thirdman for a quick single.
The throw was at the striker’s end where Mahmudullah was well inside.
But the ball hit the wicket at that end first then ricocheted towards the non striker’s end to hit that end’s wicket as well.
Russell had not expected the ball to travel that far in such a short period of time, and he was well short of the crease.
He was taken aback by the strange way he exited and smiled in surprise as he walked back to the pavilion.
Later in the innings, Dhaka skipper Mahmudullah struck some quick runs to help Dhaka finish on 183 for six in 20 overs. Mahmudullah made 39 runs off just 20 balls, including two fours and three sixes.
