New Zealand have scored 349 runs for 1 wicket in 90 overs against Bangladesh at stumps on Day 1 during the second Test at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Sunday.

Latham smashed his first century as captain, he was unbeaten on 186 runs off 278 deliveries including 28 fours while Conway is waiting to hit another century of the series. He scored 99 off 148 balls featuring 10 fours and a six.

Earlier, the Kiwis were invited to bat first and the openers led to a strong start as Will Young and Latham put on a 148-run stand for the first wicket. It was the first hundred-plus stand for the opening wicket in the first innings in New Zealand since 2012.

The right-hander, Young departed on 54 off 114 off Shoriful Islam with a thick edge to debutant Mohammad Naim at backward point.

Bangladesh are without the experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim, who suffered a groin injury and Mahmudul Hasan Joy has been rested after the finger injury during the first Test.

Bangladesh are 1-0 up in the series after winning the opening game by an astounding eight wickets at Mount Maunganui last week.
