New Zealand scored 258 runs for 5 wickets at stumps against Bangladesh during the opening day of the first Test at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Saturday.
Henry Nicholls remained unbeaten on 32 at the close of the day's play on Day 1.
Shoriful Islam was the pick of the bowling attack as he gave Bangladesh an early breakthrough by removing Kiwi skipper Tom Latham on 1.

Shoriful then scalped the important wicket of New Zealand's Ross Taylor following tea on the opening day. Taylor was caught at cover by Shadman Islam after he had tried to play for a shot but failed. Taylor returned on 31 off 64 deliveries, aided by five boundaries.
After thath, Devon Conway notched up his second Test hundred on his return to international cricket after that strange injury during the T20 World Cup.
Conway mounted partnerships of 138 with Will Young (52), 50 with Ross Taylor and 38 with Nicholls.
It is the fourth time in seven Test innings that Conway has passed the 50-run mark, it lifted his average to 71.57, but he gave his wicket away to part-time bowler Mominul Haque. Conway left the field on 122 off 227 balls.
Young fell right after his fifty as he got run out by Najmul Hossain Shanto. Young scored 52 off 135 balls with the help of six boundaries.
Ebadot Hossain picked up his first wicket of the match by dismissing Tom Blundell towards the end of the day. New Zealand scored 111 runs in the final session but lost three important wickets.
