Match Referee David Boon tests positive for Covid-19

Australian cricket legend and ICC match referee David Boon has tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed by Cricket Australia on Thursday.


Boon will not officiate in the fourth Test of Ashes which is set to be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Tasmanian will be replaced by Steve Bernard, who will take over the match referee duties in Sydney but is expected to return for the fifth Test in Hobart on January 14.


All players from England and Australia and support staff and the match officials have been having daily PCR tests since Monday, December 27.

Australia has already retained the Ashes after gaining an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Australia had defeated England by an innings and 14 runs in the third Test held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last week.
