Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out for the second Test in Adelaide with a side strain, as a result, Jhye Richardson is poised to be called up by Australia as a replacement.

Hazlewood bowled just 14 overs in England’s second innings, after picking up a side strain in the nine-wicket win over England at the Gabba.

News Corp understands Hazlewood flew from Brisbane to Sydney on Sunday, rather than staying with the team that’s due to fly to Adelaide on Monday.

“Obviously it’s a five Test match series, so (we) didn’t want to try and break him yesterday. He pulled up OK today, so we’ll keep managing him,” Cummins said post-match on Saturday.

“I think a key is we don’t want to put him in jeopardy for the whole series so we’ll take our time.”

Richardson played two Tests for Australia nearly three years ago and looked the part and has been in outstanding form in the Sheffield Shield for Western Australia.
