Bangladesh women's team returned home on December 1 after the Women's Cricket World Cup qualifiers 2022 was called off midway due to the outbreak of a new strain of Covid-19 called omicron.

The cricketers were in a five-day quarantine at a hotel since their return from Zimbabwe last Wednesday. Since their arrival, the women’s team underwent Covid-19 tests. All members had tested negative but two results showed positive on Monday.

The tournament was abandoned midway with the emergence of the latest Covid-19 variant Omicron in African nationals and the introduction of travel restrictions from a number of countries in the continent, including the host country Zimbabwe.

The ICC called off the event with the qualification slots decided as per team rankings keeping with the tournament's playing conditions.
