Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal will miss the 5th round of the National Cricket League (NCL) owing to a left-arm thumb injury. The development was confirmed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physio Bayzid Islam on Friday.

Tamim was expected to make a comeback to domestic cricket with the ongoing NCL, but the latter suffered a thumb injury during the Everest Premier League (EPL) which kept him outside the field.

“What we've seen so far, Tamim has a fracture in his thumb, he was under conservative observation. Now the rehabilitation process is going on,” Bayzid told media.

Tamim came to the practice at Sher-e Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, he was seen to practice for around 40 minutes. Bayzid, the physio, stated that he was not comfortable facing quick bowlers but was at ease with spin bowling.

“There has been a satisfactory improvement in almost two weeks, he’s able to play spin but not feeling comfortable against fast bowlers. So, there is good progress but it has not fully recovered yet,” he said.

Tamim is expected to return to the pitch with the fifth round of NCL as soon as he recovers from the injury.

“We’ve been progressing… We had a plan to play him from the next round (fifth round) of NCL but at the moment he is not available. But I hope he can return in the next round,” he added.
