Bangladesh have slumped to their fifth successive defeat in this year’s T20 World Cup Super12 stage, unable to win a single match. Like the last few editions of the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh could not win any match on the main stage.

For the Tigers, it was déjà vu all over again. If South Africa gave punishment severely in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, Australia did it even more severely in Dubai on Thursday. Sent in to bat, Bangladesh were bowled out for 73, their fourth sub-100 total of the year in T20Is, and their second of the tournament.

Australia won the match comfortably by 8 wickets just in 6.2 overs, which gave them a big boost for the Semi-final race.

After such a performance in the World Cup, there was speculation that captain Mahmudullah Riyad could resign from T20 format. Although the Tiger captain said at the end of the match against Aussies, he has no such thoughts.

Mahmudullah said, "No, I am not thinking of anything like that at the moment."

When he was asked about stepping down as T20I skipper, he said “It is not in my hands, the decision will come from the cricket board. I have always tried my best to keep the team afloat, to get a good performance. Certainly, there was something wrong with my captaincy, I could not get the performance that way”

Bangladesh did not win any match in the main round of the 2016 T20 World Cup too. However, the Tigers lost by 1 run in a great fight against India in Bangalore. In this year's event, Bangladesh lost the match against Sri Lanka and West Indies in a narrow margin. However, Mahmudullah has no explanation for such a performance.

“'I probably don't know the answer to some of the questions. These are hard to say at the moment. I believe that if you look at the previous series, we won the first match, we got a steadiness, we won the second match, we got a continuity. I think the continuity of our team is very important” the skipper said in the post-match press conference.

“Especially when we start the tournament like the T20 World Cup, when we start the series, our continuousness is very important to increase confidence. That was not here. That’s why we struggled. If we could have won the first match against Sri Lanka, we would have come to the track. It is useless to say now because we have performed poorly” he added.
