Kolkata Knight Riders’ Andre Russell got injured while playing against Chennai Super Kings last match as KKR have named Tim Southee in the XI against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday as a replacement for Russell.
During the match, Kolkata assistant coach Abhishek Nayar was questioned about Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. He revealed that Shakib did not get a chance in the XI because of the combination of the team.

“There was a talk about it. Sharjah being a smaller ground and the captain kind of felt like that playing three spinner would be slightly difficult for us. Dre Russell not being there, we felt that we needed an addition in terms of pace and which is why we took Southee,” Abhishek said.
"Shakib is a proven player in these kind of conditions but we wanted someone who could bowl in the power play. That's why we have Southee in the team" KKR’s assistant coach added.
Shakib got a chance to play three matches in the Indian phase of the IPL. Where he took 2 wickets with the ball and made 38 runs.
After that, this all-rounder of Bangladesh was dropped from the team. Although the IPL started in the United Arab Emirates, Shakib has not played for Kolkata yet.
