Malinga retires from all forms of cricket

Sri Lanka’s 2014 T20 World Cup winning captain Lasith Malinga has announced his retirement from T20Is, marking his retirement from all formats of the game.
He posted on social media announcing his retirement on Tuesday, “The experience that I have gained through the past 17 years will no longer be needed in the field since I have decided to retire from T20I Cricket marking my retirement from all formats of cricket,”
“But I will be continuously supporting the younger generations who thrives to uplift the spirit of the game and I will always be there with all who love the game,” he added.
Malinga is the leading wicket-taker in the history of IPL and has been a part of the franchise since its inception. Off late, he had lost pace and was struggling with injuries due to lack of cricket. From taking double hat-tricks to bowling toe-crushing yorkers, Malinga has been a legend of T20 cricket.
He is also the holder of a few unique feats for Sri Lanka. He has taken five hat tricks in international cricket. He has also taken 4 wickets off 4 consecutive balls twice in international cricket. He is also the leading wicket-taker in T20I's.
Malinga took a total of 546 wickets across all formats for Sri Lanka, had already retired from Test cricket in 2011 and ODIs in 2019 but continued to play T20Is for the national side.
