The national team selector Habibul Bashar has expressed disappointment over Tamim Iqbal's withdrawal from the upcoming T20 World Cup. He believes that Bangladesh needed an experienced cricketer like him in the big event.
Tamim has not played a T20 international since March last year and missed Bangladesh’s series win over Australia last month because of a knee injury. He is also out for the current T20 series against New Zealand.

The 32-year-old said he did not want to be in the national squad for the Twenty20 World Cup to give other players a chance who have been performing continually.
The selector supported the opening batsman for his decision as he has clarified his statement.
“Of course, a little disappointed. It would have been better if Tamim would have come with us, we could have used his experience. We desperately needed that in the World Cup. However, he gave his explanation, clarified his position. We want to honor his decision,” said Bashar.
Bangladesh will start their T20 World Cup Qualifiers campaign against Scotland. The match will be played at the Oman Cricket Academy ground in Muscat on October 17. The Tigers will face Oman and Papua New Guinea on October 19 and 21 respectively.
