Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn his name from the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, in UAE.

Tamim has decided to opt out of the T20 World Cup as he has not fully recovered from his knee injury despite the ongoing rehabilitation process.

The left-arm batsman confirmed his withdrawal from the T20 World Cup in a video message on his official Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon.

“A while ago I called our board president Papon Bhai, our chief selector Nannu Bhai. I shared some thoughts with them over the phone. I also want to share with everyone. I told them I didn't think I should be in the World Cup squad,” said Tamim.

"Game time is one of the biggest reasons. I haven't been playing in this format for some time now. Injury is another reason, but I don't think the injury will be an issue,"

Tamim hurt his knee during the April-May tour of Sri Lanka and returned midway through the team's subsequent Zimbabwe tour in July. He also missed the Twenty20 series against Australia.

"I've missed a handful number of matches in last year and a half. I think it'll be unfair to suddenly replace the players who've played in my position during this time and did pretty well. I would probably be in the squad, but I don't think it would be fair to them. They have had a better preparation than me," Tamim added.
