West Indies and Jamaica Tallawahs all-rounder Andre Russell wreaked havoc over the St.Lucia Kings’ bowlers on Friday as he recorded the fastest ever Caribbean Premier League (CPL) fifty off 14 balls in the third game of CPL 2021.

South Africa’s JP Duminy originally owned the CPL record, taking 15 balls to hit fifty for Barbados Tridents against Trinbago Knight Riders in 2019.

Coming in to bat in the 18th over, Russell struck an unbeaten 14-ball 50 comprised 6 sixes and 3 fours, and a strike rate of 357.14, helping his side post a mammoth total of 255 runs – the second-highest total ever scored in the CPL.

Left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz, who conceded 32 runs in the 19th over, ended up leaking 61 runs in 3 overs – the fourth-most expensive three-over spell in T20 history. The 20th over, bowled by Obed McCoy, cost 22 runs.

In reply, Kings were bowled out for 135 in 17.3 overs with Tallawahs registering a massive 120-run win. Migael Pretorius was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/32 while Imran Khan finished with 3/7.

Andre Russell's 14-ball half-century is the fifth-fastest in T20 history. Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, and Hazratullah Zazai all achieved the milestone in 12 balls, while Marcus Trescothick hit a 13-ball fifty for Somerset in 2010.
