New Zealand pace bowler Matt Henry said he is confident and well-prepared for the upcoming five-match T20 series against Bangladesh. The speedster is also ready to face the challenges on the subcontinent soil.

The right-arm fast bowler was called into the New Zealand squad to play as the replacement for batsman Finn Allen, who is in quarantine after returning positive Covid-19 test.

In the recently ended series between Australia and Bangladesh, the highest score across five T20Is was 131 as they struggled on slow, tricky wickets of Dhaka. However, the pacer said he is looking forward to the challenges.

“I haven’t been to Bangladesh. It is my first time for me there. I have played in India and UAE. I have experience in sub-continent conditions so I am going there with a lot of confidence. There were a lot of low-scoring games in the last series there, so looking forward to the challenge. I played domestic T20 cricket last season, so I will fall back on that experience,” said Henry in a video message.

Regarding his preparation the bowler said, “We have had some good training in slower wickets in Lincoln. There will be a lot of change-ups, and a different way of bowling. I have experience in those conditions.

Henry had never visited Bangladesh before, although he played in the subcontinent. Although Bangladesh is a tough opponent in their own condition, Henry wants to use the past experience.

“I have played against Bangladesh over the last few years. But those were in our conditions, which are very different than what we are about to experience. Bangladesh has been very strong in their recent series. They are known to be a very tough team to play at home,” he said.

Henry was delighted to receive the call-up for the Bangladesh series, “I just got a phone call from Stead informing me of the situation. It sounds Finn is doing really well, but it is a great opportunity for myself,” he added.
