Bangladesh didn't perform well in the first edition of the World Test Championship (WTC), finishing at the bottom of the table with no wins. Although, the Tigers performed admirably in a one-off Test match against Zimbabwe recently in Zimbabwe.

Shadman Islam, who is one of Bangladesh's best players in that Test match, is optimistic that they will be able to turn things around in the second edition of WTC.

"We didn't get enough opportunities to play Tests before. But with the introduction of the WTC, we are now getting to play more often. If we can prepare well and play to our potential, more opportunities will come our way in the future," said Tiger opener after a practice session in Mirpur today (Wednesday).

Bangladesh will want to leave the past behind and start over, according to the southpaw.

"We might not have done too well in the first edition of the WTC but everyone is preparing and performing well now. I think we will do much better this time around," Shadman added.

After the only Test against Zimbabwe in July, the Tigers have to wait until November for the next Test. While this is not a problem for players who play limited overs cricket, it is a difficult task for red ball cricketers like Shadman.

He later told the media that he wants to play in all three formats. He is trying to find out his own shortcomings during this off-period.
