New Zealand off-spinner Cole McConchie was excited to receive his maiden international call-up, for the upcoming tours to Bangladesh and Pakistan.
McConchie has got the opportunity to be called up to the squad for the first time due to the absence of many experienced cricketers. He said he was thrilled to get the news from the New Zealand Coach Gary Stead.

"I was actually on the golf course and Gary's number came up and thought it was going to be some good or bad news," McConchie said. "[It was] a real privilege to get the call from Steady and some really great news for myself and my family.
Earlier in 2012, the all-rounder received his maiden Plunket Shield cap from coach Stead. He further said, "I gave my wife Sarah a call straight away, followed by my parents. It was really special getting that phone call; a childhood dream and for that to come true, it was a pretty special moment."
Despite starting his career as an off-spinner, he improved his batting with time and expanded his all-around performances. In the 2020-21 20-over Super Smash, McConchie emerged as the fifth-highest scorer, with 298 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 120.16.
