Mitchell Starc takes five wickets as Australia beats West Indies in first ODI

Australia's skipper Alex Carey struck a half-century and fast bowler Mitchell Starc grabbed five wickets in a 133-run victory via DLS Method against the West Indies in the first match of their one-day international series in Barbados on Tuesday.


Chasing the revised target of 257 runs in 49 overs, West Indies' innings was in tatters at 27-6 in the eighth over and they were finally all out in the 27th over. The hosts managed to score 123 only as skipper Kieron Pollard made a half-century (56) to provide some resistance.

Pollard with Alzarri Joseph (17) put on 68-run partnership for the seventh wicket. For Australia, Starc took five wickets for 48 runs and Josh Hazlewood 3-11.


Australia's stand-in captain Alex Carey earlier also made a half-century in a 104-run fifth-wicket partnership with Ashton Turner to lead the tourists to 252-9 in their 49 overs. Josh Philippe (39), Ben McDermott (28) and Mitchell Marsh (20) also played good knocks.


Australia and West Indies will face-off on Thursday in the second match and on Saturday for the final ODI. The West Indies won the Twenty20 series 4-1.
