Bangladesh selectors are planning to build a strong Test team for Bangladesh over the next one to two years. On Tuesday [July 6], chief selector Minhazul Abedin Nannu stated that the selectors will submit a new plan to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
While talking about their plans, Nannu said it would be compulsory for the U-23 divisional teams to play Tests. So that more cricketers get a chance to play so the foundation of Tests is also strengthened.
"We have come up with a plan for the longer version. From this September ... if the Covid situation gets normal, we want to start the season positively. We want to arrange the longer version in such a way that the Test will be in a good position in the next two years. Our proposal is based on our selection panel's experience. If we can pursue that route, I believe we can improve red-ball cricket,” said Nannu.
"We are going to submit it to the board in a few days. It is mandatory for the divisional teams of U-23 to play Test matches... a lot of players can be added to the longer version. If that happens then the foundation of red ball cricket will be very strong,” he said.
Nannu believes there is no way to succeed in the Test championship without the improvement in the country's Test cricket. At the same time, he said that the national team must be strengthened in all aspects and more cricketers must be produced.
“If you are not strong in the longer version of cricket then you cannot go to the championship. You have to have more cricketers. Must be established on all sides. We need to pay more attention here. If we can establish ourselves in this format the rest of the formats will be better correspondingly,” he added.
