Bangladesh have clinched the three match ODI series with one match in hand as it is the first ever ODI series win against Sri Lanka. The Tigers also moved to the top of ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super league with 50 Points Tuesday.

Bangladesh started the bowling innings with a concussion sub as Mohammad Saifuddin was replaced by pacer Taskin Ahmed, who is the first ever ODI concussion sub for Bangladesh. Sri Lanka were chasing 247 runs to save the ODI series but failed to do task and faced a huge rain hit 103 runs (D/L) defeat at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.

Sub Taskin was unlucky at the beginning, a bouncer on middle and leg, opener Danushka Gunathilaka was edged but the Tigers didn’t take review after on field appeal. UltraEdge confirmed it hit his gloves.

Then debutant Shoriful Islam bagged his first wicket in his 3rd over of captain Kusal Perera (14). Perera couldn’t stop himself from going for the big hit early, as he goes uppishly for the drive over the fielder inside the circle, where Tamim was standing and grabbed it.

Gunathilaka (24) didn’t last very long after Perera’s departure as Mustafizur Rahman removed him, just Shakib Al Hasan was in the deep on the off side and took the catch. Shakib then got Pathum Nissanka’s (20) wicket, popped up in the air in midwicket the captain Tamim gabbed that.

Tigers spinners didn’t allow the Lankan batsmen to settle down as Mehidy Hasan Miraz trapped Kusal Mendis (15) into LBW for his first wicket. Then with Dhananjaya de Silva’s (10) wicket Shakib touched most wicket taker for Bangladesh Mashrafe bin Mortaza (269) and waiting to become the highest wicket getter in red and green jersey.

After that no Lanka players managed to stand on the pitch but rain again hit and interrupted Bangladesh’s triumph. In the resumption of play Sri Lanka needed an impossible total of 119 from 2 overs (D/L method).

Mustafiz and Miraz got three wickets each, while Shakib took two.

Earlier, Wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim hit a deserving hundred as Bangladesh gave a fighting total toward Sri Lanka to seal the ODI series. Mushfiq’s 125 from 127 balls helped the hosts to put 246 on board.

After a dramatic first over captain Tamim Iqbal trapped in LBW in the second over, bowled by Dushmantha Chameera, who bagged all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in that very same over for naught.

Tamim, who got fifty in the first ODI, scored 12 runs in first two balls and dropped at point in the fourth delivery of the Isuru Udana. In the next over he got out for 13 runs.

Liton Das was looking good in his 100th international appearance as he made a 34 runs partnership with wicket-keeper Mushfiq. Liton scored 25 from 42 balls with 2 boundaries. It was a length ball outside off from Lakshan Sandakan, Liton wants to cut it for four, but ends up playing it straight to point.

Mohammad Mithun’s replacement Mosaddek Hossain failed to impress, he went back to the pavilion for 10 and left Bangladesh in a tough situation. Sandakan got the wicket.

Then veteran Mahmudullah Riyad came to pitch to company Mushfiq and made a brilliant 87 runs partnership to recover pressure, which occurred when Bangladesh were 74 for 4 at one moment. Mushfiq made back to back fifty, while Mahmudullah was short from 9 runs to clinch his fifty. A premeditated paddle shot, which was taken sharply by skipper Kusal Perera broke the partnership.

After that two quick wickets went down back to back as Afif Hossain returned by Udana, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz got out by Wanindu Hasaranga. Afif made 10 and Miraz didn’t score any run.

Rain had interrupted Mushfiq’s 8th ODI ton twice but the master-class batsman sealed the milestone and became the most hundred (8) getter at number four or lower position for Bangladesh. This is Mushfiqur's first hundred in five and a half years in ODIs at home. This innings was structured with 10 fours without any sixes.

Saifuddin helped Mushfiq to continue his innings before the pace bowling all-rounder got run out by Kusal Mendis, while Mushfiq’s innings was end by Chameera. Sandakan and Chameera both got three wickets each for Sri Lanka.

Mushfiq adjudged man of the match for his brilliant hundred. The third and final match will be played on 28th May at same vanue.
