Bangladesh premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan continues to impress the world with his bowling as in first ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday he touched 1000 wickets in recognized cricket. By returning Kushal Mendis the Tiger all-rounder became the second bowler in the history of Bangladesh to reach that level after Abdur Razzak, who bagged 1145 wickets in his career.
Shakib could have been a thousand wicket-taker earlier. He took the 997th wicket in the first class, List 'A' and recognized T20 last January. Then Shakib was out of cricket for a long time due to injury and on a leave to be with his childbearing wife.

After playing three matches in the IPL, he was out of the playing XI. Shakib, who got two wickets in those three matches, was stuck in 999 wickets. The dream wicket came in today’s match.

He got most of the wickets out of one thousand for the national team. He took 569 wickets in three formats in the Bangladesh jersey. He grabbed other 431 wickets from different recognized tournaments like BPL, IPL, List A and County Cricket.
Shakib made his debut in recognized cricket for Bangladesh 'A' team in February 2005. He played for the BCB XI at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo against Zimbabwe A. The left-arm spinner opened the wicket by dismissing opener Vusi Sibanda in the match.
