Miraz-Mustafiz lead Bangladesh to victory in the first ODI against SL

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman's combined seven wickets helped Bangladesh to seal the first ODI victory against the visitor Sri Lanka at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur Sunday. Sri Lanka were chasing 258 runs to win the match as the Tigers won the match by 33 runs.
Bangladesh seized important 10 points of ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League and moved to 4th position (40 Pts) in the table.
Sri Lanka’s openers had started decently but Miraz gave Bangladesh their first wicket inside of the powerplay. Danushka Gunathilaka (25) wanted to smash back past the bowler but mistimed it and straight to the bowler himself, who takes the sharp catch.
Mustafizur stroke in his first over as he took Pathum Nissanka’s wicket, who scored only eight runs. Afif Hossain caught him at midwicket.
Number one all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan came to attack and bagged experienced Kusal Mendis for 24 runs, who were trying to build a partnership with skipper Kusal Perera. Shakib broke the partnership of 41 runs after Kusal hit in the air as he lunges forward to drive, the ball hangs in the air for a bit as point dives forward to complete an excellent catch by Miraz.
Miraz continued his majestic spell as he got both Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva quickly after Mendis’s departure. Miraz reached the 50 ODI wickets milestone with Dhananjaya’s wicket. Miraz then clean bowled Ashen Bandara and hunted his 4th prey. He completed his spell with 10-2-30-4.
Dasun Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga made a quick 47 runs partnership off 40 balls before Saifuddin clean bowled Shanaka for 14 runs. Hasaranga played a devastating innings of 74 runs with 3 fours and 5 sixes. Saifuddin took his second wicket and showed Lanka’s top scorer the way of the pavilion.

Then Mustafiz came back in the field from an injury scare, which was happened in 39th over, immediately helped Bangladesh to seal victory with a wicket of Isuru Udana (21). Mustafiz got the last wicket of Dushmantha Chameera and finished the match with 3 wickets for 34 runs.

Earlier, three senior players fifty helped Bangladesh to post 257 runs for 6 wickets. After losing the toss, Sri Lanka seamer Dushmantha Chameera gave an early breakthrough as opener Liton Das failed to score any run, Dhananjaya de Silva took the thick edge catch at slip. Shakib came back in the number 3 position to accompany skipper Tamim Iqbal.
Shakib couldn’t big his innings, got out for 15 runs off 34 balls, Danushka Gunathilaka bags Shakib caught by Pathum Nissanka. He tried to unsettle the part-timer by charging down the track but doesn't go hard on the loft. In the end, it's a very soft dismissal as he offers catching practice to long-on.
Captain Tamim departed after hitting his 51st ODI fifty, while he achieved another milestone of becoming the first-ever batsman to reach 14000 international runs in this match. Tamim took review after the leg before wicket decision but lost the appeal. He got back to the pavilion after scoring 52 off 70 balls with 6 fours and 1 over the boundary.
Mohammad Mithun came to the crease as he out for naught, Dhananjaya de Silva trapped him for LBW and bagged his second wicket after Tamim’s wicket.
Then two experienced batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad made the highest runs partnership of the innings of 109 from 122 balls and put Bangladesh in a suitable position.
Man of the match Mushfiq missed his 8th ton for 16 runs, while he got out by trying to hit a reverse sweep, it was struck hard and struck well but he hit it straight to the fielder, which ends his incredible 84 runs knock with 4 fours and one 6 six.
Dhananjaya then broke the partnership of Mahmdullah and Afif Hossain by getting Mahmudullah’s wicket, bowled him for 54 runs off 76 balls. It was right hander’s 24th half-century.
Afif (27*) and Saifuddin (13) were unbeaten and sailed the Tigers to a fighting total. Sri Lanka’s Dhananjaya grabbed 3 wickets 45 runs, while Lakshan Sandakan, Chameera and Danushka Gunathilaka got 1 wicket each.
Before the match, it was learned that Sri Lanka cricketers Isharu Udana and Shehan Fernando along with their bowling coach Chaminda Vaas had tested positive as per a report on Saturday night. All three were isolated and a second test was done where Udana and Vaas returned with negative but Fernando’s one once again showed positive.
