BCCI: India’s Asia Cup participation still under discussion

Ramesh Powar, former India off-spinner, has been appointed head coach of the senior India Women's team by the BCCI. A three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprised of Sulakshana Naik, Madan Lal, and RP Singh finalized Powar's candidacy and recommended it to the board.
The committee received 35 applications for the position, with six candidates being shortlisted and three candidates being interviewed on Wednesday. WV Raman, the current coach, was an automatic inclusion in the shortlist after leading the team to the final of the T20 World Cup in Australia last year.
Incidentally, Raman had replaced Powar at the job in December 2018 after a controversial five-month stint for the Mumbaikar that included a public fallout with veteran cricketer Mithali Raj during the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean.
A former India international, Powar played 2 Tests and 31 ODIs for India. Post his playing career, he took up cricket coaching and is an ECB Level 2 certified coach and has also attended BCCI-NCA Level 2 coaching course. He recently served as the head coach of a dominant Mumbai team that clinched the the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The tour of England will be his first assignment since returning to the helm of the women's squad. In England, the Indian women's team will play one Test, three ODIs, and three T20Is. The squad will travel with the men's team on June 2 and the first of seven games, a one-off Test match, will begin on June 16 in Bristol.
