The Women’s T20 Challenge is likely to be postponed amid the rising cases of COVID-19 in India and the potential unavailability of overseas players due to travel restrictions.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn't made an official announcement; sources have confirmed that it would be a logistical challenge to fly in overseas cricketers from England, Australia, West Indies, New Zealand, South Africa, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

"With various countries imposing travel restrictions to India, it definitely looks impossible for now to fly in the players. So at this point, things look difficult," the source said

The Women's T20 Challenge is normally held during the Indian Premier League's playoff stage, however, as the nation seeing an increase in Covid-19 cases, quite a few overseas players have pulled out and the BCCI officials believe that the women's competition is 'highly unlikely' to be held now.

Bangladesh’s Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alam also foreign stars like Deandra Dottin, Sune Luus, Daniel Waite and Natthakan Chantham have participated in last season.

On Tuesday, Australia has suspended all direct flights from India for a couple of weeks. Even the UAE and UK has put restrictions.

The T20 Challenge began in 2018 as a one-time exhibition match between two teams. In 2019, three teams have competed: Velocity, Supernovas, and Trailblazers. Last year, the Women's T20 Challenge was held in Sharjah, but the Australian players and some England players did not feature as the tournament clashed with the women's Big Bash League.
