The United Arab Emirates has been placed on standby as the venue for this year's T20 World Cup as India's covid-19 condition deteriorates, making organizing the tournament in the country difficult.
Although ICC sources said it is too early to make a decision as tournament is due to get under way in just under six months, they are ‘monitoring the situation closely’ and have been in regular dialogue with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Sri Lanka has also been considered as an alternative, but the UAE is the favoured one due to the country's small population.
The T20 World Cup was scheduled to take place in Australia last year, but it was canceled due to a worldwide coronavirus epidemic. The virus's second wave is wreaking havoc in India, with the nation registering over 350,000 cases every day.
India had proposed 9 venues for the T20 World Cup this year. The BCCI intends to hold the final of the T20 World Cup at the Motera Stadium, world's largest cricket stadium.
