28 Apr 25
On day three of the first test, the Sri Lankan batsmen made a strong start in response to Bangladesh's 541 runs. Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam urged the bowlers to be more disciplined on day four in order to restrict Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka batsmen Lahiru Thirimanne and Dimuth Karunaratne made 114 runs for the opening partnership. Left-handed batsman Dimuth Karunaratne remained unbeaten on 85 off 211 balls.

“There is not much help in the wicket for pacers or spinners. We have to bowl very well and maintain discipline. Also we have to check runs. If we can bowl tightly and take some wickets early, then chance of winning may arise,” said Taijul Islam.
At the end of the day's play, Taizul said that he was hesitant to take the review of Thirimanne due to fear of losing the review. However, Thirimanne was stopped by Mehedi Hasan Miraz, he returned scoring 58 runs.
"The ball turned a lot, so I was in a dilemma. Losing the review at that time could have been a problem. It seemed the ball would turn more, so I thought it would miss the stumps, so we didn't take the review. "Taijul said.
Sri Lanka scored 229 runs losing 3 wickets, trail by 312 runs. Karunaratne and Dhananjaya de Silva, who scored 26 runs, will start on the fourth day.
