Bangladesh had to stop at 474 runs for 4 wickets at stumps due to bad light on day two against the Sri Lanka during the first Test at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy.


Bangladesh batsmen dominated the field again on this day, with Mushfiqur Rahim (43) and Liton Das (25) remained unbeaten at the close of the day.


Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque registered his first away hundred, scored 127 runs off 304 balls with eleven boundaries before returning to the pavilion. Dhananjaya de Silva got the wicket of the centurion as the batsman tried drive away with an angled bat but in due course got an edge.

Mominul and Najmul Hossain Shanto put on 242 runs of partnership for the third wicket which came to an end by Lahiru Kumara. As Shanto returned after an excellent 163-run innings with a catch to the bowler.

Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim established Bangladesh's highest third-wicket run partnership against Sri Lanka in Chittagong in 2018. Nazmul Hossain, along with Tiger captain Mominul Haque, broke the record for most runs for the third wicket at Kandy's Pallekele Stadium.


Shanto became the second Bangladeshi batsman to cross 150 in his maiden Test hundred. Mominul was the first batsman who scored his maiden hundred 181 against New Zealand in 2013.


Earlier, Bangladesh reached 302 for 2 on the first day, with Shanto and Mominul reaching 150 runs for their remarkable partnership. Following Shanto and Tamim Iqbal's 144-run second-wicket stand, Tamim contributed 90 runs.
