The Bangladesh national cricket team flew to Sri Lanka last Monday to play two matches of the ICC Test Championship as they did not have to be confined to the island for long during the Coronavirus epidemic. Bangladeshi cricketers came out yesterday [Thursday] after three days of room quarantine. Today [Friday], the Tigers have completed the second day's practice.

Bangladesh's maiden Test victory against Sri Lanka in Colombo (2017) came in their 100th Test match as Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz recalled that victory and said if they can show the same commitment and intensity they can do well in this upcoming series again.

“Yes you see, we have played very good cricket as many times as we have played in Sri Lanka before. We didn't win the Nidahas Trophy for a small margin, then when we played the ODI series against them, they have won one, we won one, Test series was 1-1 too. We are not far behind them on their soil. Last 3-4 years. I think if we have the same commitment and can give the same intensity, then I think we can do something better,” said Miraz.

The all-rounder is looking forward to using the spin-friendly wicket as he referred spinner can take advantage on the day three and four in Sri Lankan condition.

“Line and length are very important for spinners on Sri Lankan soil, as the wicket is very good here. And I don't think it can work like that for a day or two, but when 3-4 days go by, there is help on the wicket. We spinners can take that advantage. The last Test we played, maybe we didn't have that kind of advantage. But the thing we tried, myself and Taizul [Taijul Islam] Bhai, to keep the run stuck and tried to keep the ball in the good area. But then the chance came. I will try to do that again” he added.

From tomorrow [Saturday], Bangladeshi cricketers will play a two-day warm-up match divided into two teams. Bangladesh will not get any local cricketers for the preparation match. As a result, the visitors had to go to Sri Lanka with a large preliminary squad. After the two-day match, Bangladesh will announce the main team for the series.
