Miraz eyes trophies with new Tigers of Bangladesh Cricket
15 Mar 25Before announcing the squad for the Sri Lanka tour, the selectors wanted to keep experienced all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad in the squad. However, due to his old back injury, the team was announced without him.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) medical department said that it is time for Riyad to decide on the old injury because he needs to fix the workload on his own to prolong his career.

The Bangladesh team boarded the Sri Lankan plane without Mahmudullah Riyad as he did not fully recover from the back injury. Regarding Mahmudullah's injury, BCB chief physician Debashis Chowdhury said that he is not in such a condition that he has to retire from the game now. T20 captain's career can extend through workload management.
Debashis Chowdhury told reporters on (April 12), "Mahmudullah Riyad's back injury became apparent during the West Indies series. Ever since then he has been suffering from the pain. A long-term plan is definitely needed for Riyad. His bowling, fielding… since he has been playing for a long time, he understands about his body well. Some decisions have to be made on how much intensity he can put and it will be safe.”
"Our job is to try to keep him away from getting injured. That's why the selectors talked to the physio and decided not to take him so that he would have enough time to recover. I don't think 35 is the age at which he has to quit the game. Of course, if he can maintain his fitness, he will be able to play for a long time. There is no shortage of such precedents in world cricket. We also need his experience. We will try to prolong his career. These decisions have to be made by the physio, the player, the medical team and the selectors,”he added.
