Salma-Rumana delighted after getting Test status

Bangladesh's women's team are to be awarded Test status, an ICC press release confirmed the news in a virtual conference on Thursday [April 1]. Besides Bangladesh, the women’s of Afghanistan and Zimbabwe are also getting the opportunity to play Test cricket.


Bangladesh women's cricketers have expressed their excitement as being awarded the Test status. National team spin bowling all-rounder Rumana Ahmed said that they want to take this achievement long way.


 “This is definitely good news for us. Our women's cricket has reached its full potential through this Test status. Honestly, it feels different to think of ourselves as a Test player. We want to take our cricket a long way through this Test status,” Rumana said

Salma Khatun, the T20 captain of the women's team, said, "Alhamdulillah, we are very happy to have the status of Test cricket. I hope it will take us a long way.” 


Nigar Sultana thinks Test status will take Bangladesh cricket to another level. "Alhamdulillah, we are happy and proud to be included in the traditional format of Test cricket, I hope it will definitely take Bangladesh cricket to new heights.”


So far 10 teams have played Test cricket including Australia, England, India, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies and Sri Lanka. The Netherlands and Ireland women's cricket teams have also had the opportunity to play Tests as ICC affiliates.
