New Zealand have clinched a big win over Bangladesh as the Blackcaps beat the visitors by 8 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series at University Oval, Dunedin Saturday.
Kiwi opener Martin Guptill started strongly to chase down a small target of 132 runs, however, his stormy innings of 38 runs from just 19 balls with 4 sixes and 3 fours stopped by Taskin Ahmed. His opening partner Henry Nicholls hit unbeaten 49 runs with 6 fours and helped to sail his team to victory with debutant Will Young (11*).
Another debutant Devon Conway marked his maiden game with 27 runs and an important partnership with Nicholls of 65 runs before he got out by Hasan Mahmud. However, stand-in skipper Tom Latham has now laminated his 100th cap with a big victory.
Earlier, the player of the match Trent Bolt's speed, swing and bounce put pressure on the Bangladesh batsmen from the beginning as Tiger skipper Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar could not handle that after losing the toss. Birthday boy Tamim gone for 13, while number three position batsman Soumya got out for naught. At the end of the power play, James Neesham sent back another opener Liton Das for 19 runs off 36 balls.

After top-order failure, wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim tried to build a partnership with Mohammad Mithun. Neesham broke the 27-runs partnership between them by sending back Mushfiq with 23 runs, Martin Guptil caught him at gully. Then Mithun (9) failed to extend his innings as he faced an unfortunate run out.

Slow left-arm orthodox Mitchell Santner came to attack and picked up Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 1 run and debutant Mahedi Hasan, who started his ODI career with an over boundary but couldn’t last long at the crease. He returned for 14 runs off 20 balls with a six and a four.
Experienced Mahmudullah tried to hold his position at the other end but a brilliant catch from Santner sent him back with the highest individual score of 27 runs. Matt Henry tasted his only wicket with Tigers’ last hope.
Tale enders Taskin Ahmed (10), Hasan Mahmud (1), Mustafizur Rahman (1*) couldn’t surprise the kiwi bowlers as a result Bangladesh posted a small total on board.
Boult led the Kiwi bowlers as he took 4 wickets for 27 runs, while Santner and Neesham grabbed two wickets each.
The second ODI is scheduled to be played on March 23rd (Tuesday) in Christchurch.
