Sri Lanka’s most successful cricket coach Thomas Mason Moody has been appointed for a new role as the Director of Cricket of Sri Lanka. The newly formed position was proposed by the Cricket Committee head Aravinda de Silva to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
The final decision is still yet to make of recruiting the two time World Cup winner by the SLC’s executive members. Moody’s contract would require him to work in Sri Lanka for six months, which allows him to continue his coaching duties at IPL. Currently he is with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

All cricket related matters of SLC will come under the Director of Cricket including coaching, domestic tournaments, development squads, age groups and minute details like minimum fitness standards for centrally contracted players
Moody was appointed by SLC for a two year contract in 2005 and he proved to be extremely successful. He guided the Sri Lanka team to the 2007 World Cup finals.
His contract ended with the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, however SLC offered him a renewal, but Moody declined stating that he needed to spend time with the family and returned to Australia.
The Cricket Committee is also likely to recommend other individuals for coaching roles such as Rangana Herath, Champaka Ramanayake, Ruwan Kalpage and Mario Villawarayan, former players who had worked at SLC before.
