The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 20-member squad for the ODI and T20 series against New Zealand. Opener batsman Tamim Iqbal would captain the side for the ODIs and Mahmudullah Riyad for the T20s.BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu has revealed the reason behind the announcement of such a squad.
The pacers will get extra advantage on New Zealand's wicket.Presumably there are 6 pacers in this 20 member squad.
Surprisingly all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain returned to the team after 1 year, the right-arm spinner last played an ODI against Sri Lanka in July 2019. However, Nannu said that the spinning all-rounder got a chance as a backup cricketer in the squad. At the same time, Nasum Ahmed has been taken as the only left-arm spinner due to the predominance of right-handed batsmen in New Zealand's top order.

“Mosaddek has been taken as a backup player. Since he can do both batting and bowling, he is an all-rounder. If the team management thinks he is in a good position, they will give a chance. We want to make the pool bigger. There are many games, in all three formats. That's why a bigger squad. Since we could not start domestic cricket completely. I hope to play good cricket in New Zealand.” Nannu said.

Another left-arm spinner, Taijul Islam, was considered after Shakib Al Hasan withdrew his name from the New Zealand tour. But the selectors have considered Taijul only for Tests. While, the performance of domestic cricket has put Nasum ahead of the left-arm spinner.
"We are thinking of playing Taijul in Test cricket now. As we kept Nasum for the T20 format. His performance at home is good enough. I hope Nasum can match himself in the international arena."
The New Zealand Cricket Board gave several instructions to the BCB at the time of setting the series schedule. They also laid down rules that the fleet of Bangladesh should not be more than 35 people. As a result, the BCB announced a combined squad of 20 members. Nannu said that they have announced the squad following the instructions of New Zealand.
"Due to Corona we have to set a bigger squad. There is a matter of keeping all the players fit when the camp starts after the quarantine, so we have made the squad bigger. If someone is injured, or if someone has a problem, it is difficult to take someone new at that time. No one can come or go within the rules they have made. Now those who go together must return together." he said.
Bangladesh and New Zealand will cross swords in three ODI matches and conclude the series with three T20Is.
