Bangladesh spin bowling coach Daniel Vettori will be available for the New Zealand tour, which is set to begin from March 20th as Tigers will play three ODIs and an equal number of T20s there. Vettori missed the ongoing tour against West Indies due to Covid-19 challenges.

After sealing the ODI series, Bangladesh declared a spinner based playing XI against the visitor but they failed to win the first Test as WI clinched a mighty victory by three wickets with help debutant Kyle Mayers hitting a stunning 210*, chasing 395 runs on fifth day in Chattogram. BCB Cricket Operations Manager Akram Khan admitted Vettori’s experience could help the Tiger spinners during the Test match.

“You know, it was difficult for Vettori to come here because of Corona. It would have been much better if he was here. It would be an advantage to get his experience. It seemed to me that Bangladesh was playing Tests after many days. The bowlers have bowled for such a long time. That's why weak points were visible. And the West Indies have batted really well. (Mayers) He won the match for them alone.” said Akram on Monday.

Bangladesh is now looking for a full-time spin bowling coach. However, the former kiwi veteran will be with the spinners in his own country for the upcoming series without any quarantine hassle.

New Zealand's Phillips out of IPL with injury

Glenn Phillips sustained a groin injury in his team's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad

“Right now we are looking for a spin coach. We are trying. Though Vettori showed interest to come in this series. He had to stay out of his country for 60-70 days. New Zealand has booked a hotel for quarantine after leaving the country. We had to pay him for 70 days for his 23 days service, then we will lose a lot financially. He is joining the Bangladesh team in New Zealand. He doesn't need quarantine. Since he is there. In the meantime, we will try to get a good spin bowling coach.” he added.

The series was pushed by a week as A New Zealand Cricket statement said on 4th February, the changes in the schedule was "caused by ongoing challenges in the current Covid-19 environment and the need to allow visiting sides adequate preparation for international commitments".

The three ODIs were originally scheduled to be played on March 13, 17 and 20, and will now be on March 20, 23 and 26, in Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington respectively. While, the three T20Is - originally on March 23, 26 and 28 - will now take place on March 28, 30 and April 1 in Hamilton, Napier and Auckland respectively.
