No Ranji Trophy for first time in 87 years

There will be no Ranji Trophy this year as the authority opted for the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy and Senior women’s one day tournament. BCCI will not be hosting its first-class domestic Ranji Trophy Tournament for the first time in 87 years.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah wrote, “It is extremely important for us to ensure that women’s cricket takes place and I am extremely happy to inform you that we are going to conduct the Senior Women’s One day tournament simultaneously with the Vijay Hazare Trophy and follow it up with Vinoo Mankad Trophy U- 19. This has been decided after having received your feedback on the domestic season 2020-21.”

31 Jan 25However, the BCCI has decided to compensate domestic players for the match fees they would have earned during the Ranji Trophy, approximately Rs 45000 a day.
It is understood that BCCI will probably follow the same groupings and bio-bubble for the Hazare Trophy that will start next month. As per the authority, the details of the tournament, including dates and venue would be decided later. With the 2021 IPL set to begin in April, only a two month window is available for conducting both of these tournaments.
