Bangladesh are hunger to grab another ten points for the ICC ODI Super League as they are set to face visitor West Indies on Friday for the second ODI in Mirpur. Tigers will clinch the three match ODI series, if they can repeat the first game’s performance.
Premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan came back in the international match with a man of the match performance under newly appointed captain Tamim Iqbal. Host Bangladesh beat inexperience Windies side by six wickets by restricting them on 122 with tight bowling. Shakib’s figure of 7.2-2-8-4 was the best by a Bangladeshi bowler against the West Indies in ODIs, he also reached the landmark of 150 ODI wickets at home soil.
Despite Shakib’s brilliant performance, Mustafizur Rahman and debutant Hasan Mahmud lead the pace attack for the Tigers. Fiz got two early breakthroughs, while Hasan took three important wickets in his first national team jersey appearance.
Bangladesh fast bowling coach Ottis Gibson praised young gun Hasan Mahmud after their practice session on Thursday, said he isn’t surprised at all with Hasan’s performance.

“Hasan did not surprise me at all, that is why he was placed in the XI. Because we have seen his improvement. He has been with us for the last 12 months. He was in Pakistan last year. He has been with us for several days and we have seen his improvement. So it was good that he got his chance and three wickets in his debut is a good reward for his hard work.” said Gibson.

Chasing a small total, Tigers were struggled a bit due to the Caribbeans debutant Akeal Hosein, who got a spell of 10-3-26. Openers Tamim and Liton Das (14) added 47 before Liton got out. Tamim played a decent 44 runs innings. Promoted Najmul Hasan Shanto didn’t impress at number three position as he scored only one. Shakib did not shine that much with the bat (19 off 43 deliveries with one four) in his new batting position at four. Mushfiqur Rahim (19) and Mahmudullah (9) were unbeaten as they sailed the tigers to victory. The Tigers might field the same playing XI until any last minute injury occurs.
On the other hand, the West Indies played six debutants in their XI, among them only Akeal and Kyle Mayers (40) were impressed with their duty.
Friday's forecast suggests better weather with sunlight instead of gloomy weather like the last match. which would make conditions more conducive for run-scoring.
The match will start at 11:30 am local time.
