Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media committee chairman Jalal Yunus announced to name the forthcoming series as “Bangabandhu Bangladesh-West Indies Series” on the occasion of the completion of 50th year of Independence and the Centenary of the Birth of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“We want to dedicate as many as tournaments to the remembrance of Bangabandhu.” Jalal said. The name of this great leader will be included in all the cricket tournaments of the country in the next two years.

Due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) was not played last year. But recently, the BCB organized a T20 tournament with the country's cricketers to bring the players back to the field. The event was titled as 'Bangabandhu T20 Cup'.
“At this time on the occasion of Independence, we have the thought that we can dedicate as many tournaments as we want in the name of Bangabandhu. That's why the West Indies series was named after him. We have dedicated a T20 tournament in the name of Bangabandhu. From now on we will try to remember as much as we can.” He added.
