Ireland-UAE ODI suspended after four more players test COVID-19 positive

The second ODI between Ireland and United Arab Emirates was called off on Monday for a second time after four more UAE’s players have tested positive for COVID-19, their squad is self-isolating for an extended period of time. Ireland lead 1-0 in the four-match series.


This observed over forty eight hours of self-isolation with the aid of the UAE group after four reported positive cases of COVID-19. Additionally, the directive from the authorities requires the UAE group to continue to be in quarantine for an extended duration of time.

A Cricket Ireland statement declared "Emirates Cricket Board has recommended Cricket Ireland of addition 4 cricketer’s who have examined positive for COVID-19. As a result, it has been sanctioned that tomorrow's ODI will be postponed.”


An Emirates Cricket Board statement said: "This decision, supported via Cricket Ireland, was made after a new directive obtained from authorities.”


Discussions are continuing with all worried parties, along with the relevant authorities, regarding rescheduling of the remaining matches. A choice will be made and communicated as soon as an agreement has been reached and approved.


Ireland lost to the UAE by 6 wickets in the first ODI. The third and fourth ODI were scheduled on 14 and 16 January respectively. Before that three players were affected by corona, Vice-captain Chirag Suri, Alishan Sharafu and another left-arm spinner Aryan Lakra.
