Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indians in a nail-biting Super Over game on Monday in the 2020 edition of Indian Premier League after the game ended on a tie.
Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first. Put into bat, Bangalore openers Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch built a solid foundation. They started slowly but soon picked up the pace where Finch smashed a maximum off Trent Boult over the long-off fence in the 3rd over. Later he took on Rahul Chahar for three consecutive boundaries in the 5th over whereas Jasprit Bumrah scored two back-to-back fours.
The duo added 59 runs within the power play. They added 81 runs in 9 overs before Boult provided with the first breakthrough by dismissing Finch for 52 off 35 with 7 fours and a six. However, Virat Kohli once again failed to contribute and fell for 3 off 11.

His dismissal brought AB de Villiers in the middle. While Devdutt hit two successive sixes, de Villiers took on Bumrah for a boundary and two sixes as well. While the youngster got out for 54 off 40 with 5 fours and 2 sixes, de Villiers and Shivam Dube – who joined later continued their destruction which also included three maximums from Dube in the final over and ended up posting 201 runs in 20 overs.
While chasing a target of 202, Mumbai Indians got off to a bizarre start. While Rohit Sharma scored run-a-ball 8, Quinton de Kock fell for a mere 14 off 15. Even Suryakumar Yadav also fell for a duck.
While they were struggling for 39 for 3 in 6.4 overs, the youngster - Ishan Kishan took the charge. He added 39 runs with Hardik Pandya before he got out for another small score – 15. Kishan smashed two sixes in the 11th over. However, after Pandya’s dismissal, Kieron Pollard joined him in the crease.
They started to build the partnership. But the equation became 119 runs needed in 48 balls. Since then, they changed the gear, hitting a six and reached to fifty off 39 runs. It was the 17th over when Adam Zampa came to the attack and the batters changed the game. Pollard started with a four and then smacked three sixes in the same over and they were needed 53 runs in 18 balls.
Meanwhile, Pollard brought up his fifty in 20 balls and their constant big hits helped them to end on the same score in 20 overs and the game ended up in a tie. In the Super Over, Navdeep Saini gave away only 7 runs and RCB had to chase only 8 runs where the captain Virat Kohli smashed Jasprit Bumrah for a boundary off the final ball to win the game.
