Even though Bangladesh team’s much-awaited tour to Sri Lanka is not held finally, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will start their domestic cricket at any cost.

Cricketers at Bangladesh cricket see a glimmer of hope after the talks of BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon. Many of them started practicing in order to play domestic cricket after a long hiatus. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suspended the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League after just the first round of games.

Cricketers organization-Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) held a meeting on Tuesday night. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors Nairmur Rahman Durjoy and Khaled Mahmud Sujon put forward a proposal of organising a corporate cricket league to the BCB president after the uncertainty of the Bangladesh team’s imminent tour for a three-match Test series against the hosts.

It’s learnt that the BCB president responded positive to their proposal. CWAB general secretary Debroto Paul admitted the matter and said regarding the matter, “BCB welcomed the idea of the CWAB to organize a corporate league. Hopes have been created among the local cricketers.”

Paul also expressed their desire if Bangladesh’s team tour to Sri Lanka is held, in that case, the BCB should continue the proposed league.

It’s learnt that there might be 4 to 6 teams in the corporate league, where more than 70-80 players can take part. Therefore, there are so many players who will remain out of cricket.

The board can give them financial assistance. The CWAB meanwhile sought a financial aid of Tk three crore from the board during the coronavirus pandemic period. It is learnt from the close sources that the board in principle agreed to provide a budget of Tk two crore for the players.
