Bangladesh will return to international cricket with the forthcoming October-November Sri Lanka series after a lengthy six-month corona-enforced break. The tour comprises three-match Test series.

Like the national team cricketers, the players of the ‘out of the national team’ will not be waiting for so long. Even though Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) formally doesn’t tell anything about Dhaka Premier League (DPL), it’s confirmed that the unfinished league is not being rolled onto the ground any longer of the year.

But there is a ray of hope for the remaining three leagues in the domestic cricket calendar because the BCB plans to start domestic cricket season with the National Cricket League (NCL) in October.

Dhaka Premier League (DPL)

Though BCB formally doesn’t tell anything about the unfinished Dhaka Premier League (DPL), it’s difficult to organize in the current corona situation of the country. BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon gave an indication of it while talking in a private television channel.

“It’s tough to say whether DPL will be held or not. It’s possible to hold it earlier. I think it’s not possible right now,” Nazmul Hassan said

“The clubs have lost their interests and eagerness to play without the national team players,” he said further.

Many of the clubs meanwhile cleared the 50-60 percent payment to their players. Cricketers are raring to return to the cricket field.

When asked about BCB’s message to the clubs in such a situation, BCB Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, “It’ll be a different decision if the league will not be held. And what types of problems will rise if it takes place no longer in 2020. The board can’t take any decision individually. There is a matter of compromising with all parties and stakeholders.

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)

The corona situation put an impact on the matter of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) BPL planning. BPL means a congregation of the foreign stars and its globe-trotting players. Match referees, commentators, broadcasting troupe will also come outside of the country.

The last BPL had been organized without the franchisees. But the imminent edition was slated to be held with the participation of the franchisees for which there is a matter of taking preparation well for the BCB. The economic situation of the world gave a bit of apprehension to the board.

“The majority of the franchisee are business holders. It’s a matter of apprehension how much prepared they are now for the BPL? Firstly, we have to sit with them,” BCB CEO said.

The BCB fixed a December-January window for the BPL after the end of the Sri Lanka tour in November.

National Cricket League (NCL)-Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL)

Though there is disappointing news for the cricketers not to hold the premier league, there is positive news for them. It’s learnt from the BCB Tournament Committee the timeframe of the National cricket League has been fixed.  As of now, they are waiting for the approval from the board meeting. Like the previous year, they planned NCL in October.

Although the corona situation in the country did somewhat progress, the BCB plans to organize the league in the biosafety bubble of Cox’s Bazar and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP). They also planned to organise the franchise-based First Class Tournament of Bangladesh Cricket League in the same manner.

If the BPL is held in December-January, BCL might be rolled onto the ground from the February-March window.

The final decisions regarding those domestic leagues might be finalized in the next board meeting that may be held in the next week.
