Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said they will initiate further plans after the medical committee gives their report on resuming cricket amid the mounting coronavirus pandemic.

They have a comprehensive guideline of International Cricket Council (ICC) in hand, where they directed to its member countries how they will work for the resumption of cricket on the field.

Following that guideline, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has started a 12-day residential training camp with 13 national bowlers from June 1. It is reported that the group of bowlers has started their proceeding with in-house fitness training at the hotel on June 1- 2.

Therefore, they will train at Colombo Cricket Club ground. During this whole training period, players will stay at a hotel. A four-member unit of coaching and support staff is supervising the players during the training period.

However, the BCB doesn’t want to rush things rather they would like to follow the wait and see policy as they believe the risk of the deadly virus is still at large. And so, they don’t want to jeopardize anything regarding the recommencement of cricket on the field.

“We have to get a specific guideline from the medical committee after which we can say how we proceed,” Minhajul Abedin Nannu said.

“Firstly our condition is not like Sri Lanka. So we have to make our plans according to our condition. Secondly, it can be an option (residential camp) in the academy premises so that there is no risk of health,” Nannu told a leading English daily on Tuesday.

“We have to form a squad for training purposes after getting a guideline because the number of squad members will depend on how we want to go on with the training programme,” he added.

Minhajul said that they are waiting for the government’s classification about the coronavirus risk zone as he feels that if their ground and facilities fall under the red zone, the restart of cricket will not be possible right now.

Earlier, the government said that the country will be divided into three zones- Red, Green and Yellow- to regulate the spread of the coronavirus effectively.

Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Chittagong are on high infection rates to date. The government said the highly affected areas will see further lockdown if needed.

As Yellow Zones have reported fewer cases than the other two zones, the houses of infected patients will be locked down there. However, the areas where there are no COVID-19 cases, it will see some special initiatives where the outsiders might not be allowed to enter anyone into those areas.

And, the Red Zone areas will see the tight security measures, the people in the areas will not be allowed to go outside of the area. If the guidelines followed strictly in the red and yellow zone areas, it will then be turned to green zones gradually.

By analysing the COVID-19 confirmed cases, the zoning system will be made, where the Department of Health has already been asked to submit information regarding this.

“We need to know what type of zones our areas is fallen. If we fall into the red or yellow zones, there is no point making plan, taking certain venues into consideration,” Minhajul said, adding that the infection rate in Mirpur area certainly appears to qualify for the Red Zone.
